Scentry — Smell Training

Getting Started

What is smell training, and how do I start?

Smell training (olfactory training) is the practice of deliberately sniffing a set of distinct scents twice a day to help your sense of smell recover. Open Scentry, tap Start a session on the dashboard, and the App walks you through each scent with a timer and a quick rating. You bring the physical scents (essential oils or jars); Scentry guides the routine and tracks your progress.

What are the four scents?

The classic protocol uses rose, lemon, clove, and eucalyptus — four distinct scent categories. These are Scentry's defaults. Premium users can rotate in new scents over time and add unlimited custom scents.

How does a session work?

For each scent, you sniff gently for the timed interval, then rate the intensity (how strong it was) and the clarity (how recognizable it was). Do this morning and evening. The per-scent timer keeps running even if you lock your phone or switch apps, so you don't have to keep the screen on.

Tracking Parosmia

What is parosmia, and how do I log it?

Parosmia is when a familiar smell comes through distorted — for example, coffee smelling like smoke or burning. In Scentry, open the distortion log and record what you expected versus what you actually perceived, then rate how pleasant or unpleasant it was on a simple slider.

What are safe and trigger foods?

As you log distortions, you can flag foods as "safe" (smell or taste normal enough to enjoy) or "trigger" (distorted or unpleasant). Scentry groups your past entries by trigger so you can see patterns over time and find foods you can tolerate while you recover.

Progress & Export

How do I see if it's working?

Scentry charts your intensity and clarity ratings over weeks and months, shows a pleasantness trajectory for your top parosmia triggers, and gives an adherence view of sessions completed versus expected. Slow, uneven progress is normal — the charts are there to make small gains visible.

How do I export a report for my ENT?

Open the export screen and tap Export PDF for a one-page summary of your recovery, or Export CSV for your full history. Both are generated on your device and shared through the standard iOS share sheet — you choose where they go. The report is a record of your self-reported entries to support a conversation with your clinician; it is not a clinical test result.

Free vs Premium

What's free vs Premium?

Free: Unlimited guided training, reminders, intensity and clarity ratings, your recovery snapshot, and your first 7 parosmia distortion entries. Premium: Unlimited parosmia logging with safe-vs-trigger food tracking, full multi-week recovery trends, the one-page ENT PDF and CSV export, scent rotation, and unlimited custom scents.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — the Premium Annual plan ($29.99/year) includes a 7-day free trial. You'll only be charged at the end of the trial. Cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings before the trial ends.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Settings inside the App and tap "Restore Purchases". This re-applies your active subscription if you've previously purchased one on this Apple ID.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the iOS Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Scentry and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Privacy

Where does my data go?

It stays on your iPhone. Scentry has no account and no servers — your training history and parosmia logs never leave your device. You can confirm by turning on Airplane Mode; everything still works. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

What permissions does the app need?

Only Notifications, and only if you want training reminders — you can decline and still use everything else. Scentry does not request the microphone, camera, photos, location, or HealthKit.

Medical Note

Is Scentry a medical device?

No. Scentry is a self-tracking and education tool, not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. Everything it records is self-reported by you. Always consult your doctor or ENT specialist about your symptoms and recovery.
